Color and waterproofing in one step. Timber Vitals Tinted Waterproofer is a solvent-free, 100% active silane/siloxane water repellent with integrated color, supplied ready to use. It penetrates deep into the wood rather than forming a film, leaving a flat, translucent finish that shows the grain and will not yellow, crack, or peel.

Built for exterior saunas, cabins, decks, fences, porches, and pergolas. Available in Cedar Bark, Golden Honey, and Natural Brown.

Why It Works

  • Deep-penetrating — bonds within the wood instead of forming a film that can peel
  • Breathable — highly vapor-permeable, so trapped moisture escapes instead of being sealed in
  • Flat, translucent finish — tones the wood without a heavy painted look
  • Evens out weathered or mismatched wood — one product for color and repellency
  • Low VOC — under 15 g/L, non-flammable, no known carcinogens, no Prop 65 chemicals
  • Ready to use — no mixing, measuring, or dilution
  • Applies down to 40°F, recoats in about 1 hour, cleans up with soap and water

Colors

  • Cedar Bark — TV-1GALRTU-CB
  • Golden Honey — TV-1GALRTU-GH
  • Natural Brown — TV-1GALRTU-NB

All three colors share the same base formulation. The finish darkens the surface slightly and weathers gradually toward a natural wood hue depending on the color chosen and the species it is applied to. Custom colors are available on request for volume orders. Always confirm color on a test panel before general application.

Coverage

  • Dense hardwoods such as ipe — up to 300 sq ft per gallon
  • Softwoods such as cedar, spruce, and thermally modified aspen — 150 sq ft per gallon
  • Wood deck — 150 to 200 sq ft per gallon
  • Wood fence — 125 to 150 sq ft per gallon

How Much for a Sauna

Western red cedar, Nordic spruce, and thermally modified softwoods are porous and drink more material than decking hardwoods. Plan on 150 sq ft per gallon and apply two flood coats — an effective rate of roughly 75 sq ft of finished surface per gallon.

  • 4-person barrel sauna, about 120 sq ft — 2 gallons
  • 6-person barrel sauna, about 180 sq ft — 3 gallons
  • 8-person barrel sauna, about 240 sq ft — 4 gallons
  • 6 × 8 cabin, about 300 sq ft — 4 gallons

How to Apply

  1. Apply with a hand-pumped garden sprayer (do not atomize) or low-pressure airless equipment using a .035 to .051 tip, held 8 to 12 inches from the surface.
  2. Apply to rejection — flood the surface until the wood stops absorbing and the liquid pools. Under-application is the most common cause of reduced service life and uneven color.
  3. Allow about 1 hour of surface dry time, then apply a second flood coat. Two coats are recommended on cedar, spruce, and other porous softwoods.
  4. Maintain a wet edge and work to a natural break to avoid lap marks. Avoid windy weather.
  5. Clean tools with soap and water immediately after use.

Before You Start

  • Bare, unpainted, previously unsealed wood only — do not apply over paint, stain, varnish, or any film-forming coating.
  • Wood moisture content must be below 25% by electronic moisture meter.
  • Air, surface, and material temperatures above 40°F and at least 5°F above the dew point. No rain, snow, or sub-40°F temperatures expected within 48 hours. Relative humidity below 90%.
  • Color varies by wood species, age, porosity, and number of coats. Confirm on a test panel and use material from the same batch on a single project.
  • Exterior use only. Do not apply to interior sauna benches, walls, or ceilings, or any surface in direct skin contact at elevated temperature.
  • Because this product is tinted, protect plants, vehicles, glass, and metal from overspray and remove any overspray promptly to prevent permanent staining.
  • Freshly treated horizontal surfaces may be slippery when wet. Store between 45°F and 90°F. Do not freeze.
